Polish lawyer with Georgian roots Jerzy Ciemnolonski is one of the pioneers of tourism in Georgia. His tours are always distinguished by European precision and truly Georgian spirit.
Day 1 – arrival in Tbilisi, transfer from the airport to the hotel, rest. Breakfast.
City tour – visiting the beautiful sights of the capital of Georgia. We visit the largest temple of the Caucasus – the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity, the medieval fortress Narikala (Gentle Fortress, VI-VIII c.), Built during the times of the Arab emirs, the Anchiskhati (V-VI.) Temples, Metekhi (XIII c.) and Sioni (XI) -XII c.), The Tbilisi sulfur baths, located in the oldest part of the city, which is more than 1,500 years old – Abanotubani. On the cable car we climb, enjoying the panorama of the city, to the monument of Kartlis Deda – Mother Georgia (XX century).
The old city of Tbilisi admires its ecumenism: next to each other there are an Armenian cathedral, a synagogue and a mosque. We pass into the quarter cafes and restaurants. Here you can eat a wonderful ice cream, buy gifts and souvenirs or folk costumes, as well as try the local cuisine.
Free time, coffee-break. Then we take a walk along the main avenue of Tbilisi – Rustaveli. The route begins with the monument to St. George on Liberty Square, where the former city hall is also located. On the way to we pass the building of the former Parliament, where in 2003 the Rose Revolution, the oriental opera, the former palace of the governor of the Caucasus, the church of Kvashveti (XIX century), the theater and the philharmonic society began. Dinner at the restaurant with live music. Return to the hotel and overnight at the hotel.
Day 2 – Breakfast. We leave on the Military Georgian road to the north. On the way we look at the magnificent fortress of Ananuri (XVII century.), Located above the huge reservoir of Zhinvali. Further the road is full of sharp turns, we go to the city of Stepantsminda to see the inactive volcano, the second highest mountain of Georgia – Kazbek (5127 m asl).
We rise on off-road cars to the church of the Holy Trinity (14th century), situated high above the city (2170 above sea level), in the distance is seen the snowy peak of the mountain. We return to Tbilisi. Dinner on the way. Overnight at hotel in Tbilisi.
Day 3 – Breakfast. We visit the pearl of architecture – the former capital of the Caucasian Iberia – Mtskheta. We look at the sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. On the steep road we drive up to the church of Jvari (6th-7th c.). From there, a beautiful view of the city and two connecting rivers of Georgia – Kura (Mtkvari) and Aragvi opens. Then we look at the cathedral Svetitskhoveli (XI century), where the tombs of the Bagrationi family are located, with a vault at an altitude of 54 meters. According to legend, the Jew Elijah (Ilya), a witness of the Passion of Christ, brought here the chiton of Jesus. Inside is a font from the VI century, in which they baptized Georgian rulers. We also look at wonderful murals. Free time, coffee-break, an opportunity to buy souvenirs. Then we go, according to the list, the Samtavro convent (IV century), in which the rulers of Georgia, King Mirian and his wife Nana are buried, who in 337 adopted Christianity on behalf of the people. We also stop at the grave of the elder monk St. Gabriel, a saint who in the twentieth century became famous as a healer and clairvoyant, and his cult is still very strong in Georgia. Our path leads further through the Suram Tunnel to Kutaisi, one of the oldest cities in the world (XVII-XV century BC), known as Ai in ancient Greek times. It was here that Jason and the Argonauts came for the golden fleece, and in the nearby caves of Prometheus concealed the fire stolen by God.
Dinner. Free time. For those who wish, a walk to the center of the city, where we will see the buildings of the theater and opera, as well as a fountain with reproductions of 5000-year-old sculptures found on the territory of Georgia. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 4 – Breakfast, sightseeing Kutaisi, incl. the building of the Georgian parliament, the Bagrati Cathedral (from the 6th century, the reconstruction in the 20th century), the monastery ensemble Gelati (XII-XIII c.) with three churches and the building of the Academy of Sciences, known as the “New Athens” or “New Jerusalem”, where outstanding Georgian and Greek thinkers studied. In Gelati, King David Agmashenebeli, called the Builder, is buried. Finally, we visit the ensemble of caves known as the Prometeev caves. Our goal is Borjomi resort. After a walk in the park of mineral waters (XIX century.) We go to Akhaltsikhe. Dinner. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 5 – Breakfast. We are going to see an unprecedented work of ancient construction, carved into the rock to an altitude of 1300 meters above sea level, the town of Vardzia (12th-13th century). On the way we stop at the huge fortress of Khertvisi (II-XII century), where – according to legend – Alexander the Great came. After the conquest of Vardzia – coffee break. Near Gori we see the oldest rocky town Uplistsikhe (V century BC), which was the residence of the rulers and the place of the pre-Christian cult. We visit the city of Gori, known as the birthplace of Joseph Stalin (Dzhugashvili). Transfer to Tbilisi. Dinner at the restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 6 – Breakfast. We go east – we visit the impressive monastery complex David Gareji (IV-XII century) with frescoes from the XI century, located on the semi-desert on the Georgian-Azerbaijani border. After returning to Tbilisi, we drive up the cable car to the holy mountain Mtatsminda. On the mountain there is an amusement park and a TV tower. Ride the Ferris wheel to see the beautiful panorama of the city. Then again on the cable car we go down to the temple of the holy father David. Heroes of history and culture of Georgia, Georgian writers Akaki Tsereteli and Ilya Chavchavadze, the first president of Georgia Zviad Gamsakhurdia, as well as Russian writer and diplomat Alexander Griboyedov are buried in the Pantheon of writers and public figures in Mtatsminda (XIX-XX centuries).
